Linxon is supplying a complete power supply of a traction substation including third rail for two corridors of the existing Metro Railway Kolkata in India. The customer is the Indian public company Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).

The project consists of two corridors, Airport- New Garia which is approximately 5.4 kilometer length and Joka to Majerhat Corridor which is approximate 9.8 kilometer.

 The Linxon turnkey scope involves project management, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of complete power supply scope for the two corridors. The project consists 13 traction substations and auxiliary substations and a 750 V third rail system, basically a conductor rail providing electric traction power to railway trains and is placed outside of running rails. Finally, a complete power supply for vehicle maintenance depot will be built near the Joka terminal station.

The Kolkata Metro was the first metro railway in India, opening for commercial services from 1984.The daily ridership of the metro is 500,000 people. Once completed the mass transit system will provide much needed connectivity from the airport to heart of city and the new upcoming suburbs of the city.
