Extension of the 400/132 kV substation at Rumaila power plant

June 22, 2021

Linxon has signed a contract with International Free Company (IFC), a subsidiary of one of Iraq’s largest private industrial conglomerates, to extend the 400/132 kV substation for the Rumaila 3000 MW natural gas combined cycle power plant (Rumaila IPP – owned by Shamara Holding Group). This project will stabilize Iraq’s transmission grid and contribute to reduction in CO2 emission.

The contract covers system design and equipment supply to transfer the power from four new gas turbines rated at 180 MW each. The Rumaila IPP substation is owned by Shamara Holding Group (SHG) and this is the fourth substation package delivered by Linxon which in total will enable the export of 2500 MW of electricity to the Iraqi transmission grid.

“We are honoured to have received this contract renewal to enhance the power grid in Iraq”, said Stefan Reisacher, Managing Director of Hub EMEA in Linxon. “This demonstrates the strength of collaboration between Linxon and our customers and we look forward to working with IFC again.”

The project consists of an engineering and procurement package that includes technical support for the 400/132 kV AIS substation which is divided into several stages to align with the Rumaila IPP construction milestones.

Linxon’s scope includes civil and electromechanical engineering and supply of 400/132 kV HV equipment, control and protection panels, SCADA integration, steel structure, busbars, switchyard material and new 11 kV switchgear room.
