Linxon attended the UTC Power Grid 4,0 Digitalization Forum, October 16 – 18 in Montréal as platinum sponsor, under the main sponsorship of Hydro Quebec and SNC-Lavalin.

The conference was designed to bring together utility executives to an in-depth three day forum focused on optimized solutions, managing overall organizational network cost. The delegates had good opportunities to delve into the strategies, technologies and business drivers associated with transforming existing electric utilities into the digitized utility technology entities of the 21st century.

Linxon had the pleasure to host an all attendee reception, introducing Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Innovation and Economy of Quebec, guest of honor and a committed businessman involved in his community and in many organizations.

In the Linxon panel “Digitalization Technology for Substations”, there was a good discussion addressing the challenges and opportunities in the digital grid, led by moderator Alexandre Nicolas, supported by the panelists Michel Lavallee, Corey Kelkenberg, John Chahwan and John Finney. The conclusion from the substation-focused interaction was that digitalization is an opportunity and the step towards a digital substation should be standard-based as well as incorporating cyber security.

A digital substation is essential in order to increase the safety, productivity and reliability of a power system for grid operators and it can reduce overall substation costs. Digital substations remove the last electrical connection between high-voltage equipment and protection and control panels.
