Linxon, an ABB and SNC-Lavalin company, has won an order of around $20 million from the public utility Svenska kraftnät in Sweden to supply two 400 kV air insulated (AIS) substations to Ringhals nuclear Power plant in the South-West of Sweden.

The project consists of a replacement of the existing substations at Ringhals power plant outside of Varberg, and Linxon is supplying two 400 kV substations at Ringhals. The new substations will be connecting reactor 3 and 4 to the transmission grid.

“This project has a challenging execution scheme and we are glad to have been given the mandate and trust from Svenska kraftnät to execute this project. We will be modernizing the substation while power generation is maintained, keeping outages to a bare minimum”, said Frédéric Trefois, CEO of Linxon.

The Linxon turnkey supply includes project management, engineering, procurement, equipment supply, civil design, civil works, mechanical & electrical installation and commissioning. The products are high technology solutions mainly from ABB, such as the 400 kV AIS Switchgear (totally 11 bays) with disconnector circuit breakers (DCB’s), auxiliary power supply plus protection and control system. The civil works including the substation buildings and two transmission towers, will be delivered by contractors.

The construction will start during the early spring of 2020 and the first station is expected to be ready for commissioning in 2022 followed by the second one in 2023.

Linxon commenced operations on September 1, 2018, undertaking turnkey high voltage electrical alternating current substation projects related to renewable and conventional power generation, power transmission and transportation solutions. Substations enable the efficient and reliable transmission and distribution of electricity. Within the high voltage substation, the grid automation control system protects the network from power outages and facilitates reliable electricity supply.
